Homeowner suffers serious burns in Minto house fire

Victim had been attempting to start a corn stove when a flashback occurred causing the victim to start on fire

TOWN OF MINTO - Today at approximately 6:25 a.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of structure fire at a residence on 16th Line, Town of Minto.

Minto Fire Department attended along with OPP. Investigation revealed that the victim had been attempting to start a corn stove when a flashback occurred causing the victim to start on fire. 

The victim exited the residence and rolled in snow to extinguish the fire then left the premises. The victim was located and transported to a local hospital then air lifted to Hamilton General Hospital with serious burns. He is in stable condition.

The Office of the Fire Marshal has been contacted.
