Human remains found in Guelph-Eramosa Township

TOWNSHIP OF GUELPH-ERAMOSA – On April 21, 2021, at approximately 5:30 p.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report that a hiker had located an individual's personal property in a wooded area, just off Wellington Road 30 in Guelph-Eramosa Township.

Officers attended the scene, located just north of Guelph, conducted a ground search of the area and located what appeared to be human remains. The Ontario Forensic Pathology Services (OFPS) and the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario (OCCO) partnered in the investigation. The remains are confirmed as human.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Wellington County OPP Crime Unit and OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS), under the direction of the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) and assisted by the OCCO and OFPS.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted in an attempt to identify the remains and determine a cause of death.

Investigators believe this to be an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety.

The investigation is in the early stages and more information will be released when it becomes available.
