At approximately 2:50 p.m. in the afternoon on May 4, a 34-year-old Guelph woman was driving her Honda Odyssey mini-van southbound on Glasgow Street with four small children inside.

In the intersection at Oxford Street her mini-van was struck by a Honda CRV that was westbound on Oxford Street. The collision forced the mini-van into a hydro pole at the south-west corner of the intersection and broke it in two. The pole then came down on the hood of the mini-van.

It was fortunate that the woman and her young passengers received only minor injuries and were taken to the hospital as a precaution, as well as the 46-year-old Guelph woman who was driving the CRV.

Hydro staff worked to replace the pole and the intersection was finally reopened at 8:30 p.m.

Charges are pending in this collision.

Yesterday, the steady rainfall that we all experienced definitely required some added diligence when driving. Police investigated five other collisions during the day as well.

Despite that rain, police stopped 40 vehicles to enforce the rules of the road that resulted in 25 drivers being charged with Provincial driving offences.
