Driver found asleep at the wheel charged with impaired

TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH - On Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018 at approximately 7:45 a.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a white pickup truck stopped on the shoulder of the Fifth Line near Wellington Road 109, with the engine running and had been there an extended period of time.

Police located the vehicle and sleeping male driver, and while speaking with him determined that he was under the influence of alcohol. A roadside screening device (ASD) test was conducted which resulted in a fail. He was transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing.

Twenty-three-year-old Riley O'Connell of Centre Wellington North Township has been charged with adult care or control over 80 mgs. A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on Nov. 16, 2018 to answer to the charge.

TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH - On Monday, Oct. 15, 2018 at approximately 3 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a possible impaired driver that was refused service at the beer store located on the Main Street in Mount Forest. The male was operating a grey four-door sedan and was last travelling northbound in town.

Police patrolled the area and located the man when he returned home a short time later. While speaking with the male, officers observed obvious signs of impairment and placed him under arrest. He was transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing.

Fifty-nine-year-old John Dippel of Wellington North Township has been charged with driving while impaired and driving with over 80 mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood. A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on Nov. 13, 2018 to answer to the charges.
