Vehicle strikes building

An Arrow Road business got quite a surprise when a Jeep driven by 69-year-old Guelph woman crashed through the front of the building right and became lodged at the main entrance to the store.

The crash happened when the driver pulled into a parking spot and her foot slipped off the brake onto the gas, accelerating the vehicle into the building.

The female driver found herself trapped inside the vehicle but with the assistance of the Guelph Fire Department she was freed without injury.

The building was temporarily evacuated due the heavy damage to the structure and its electrical wiring.

City staff from the building department attended to assess the damage to the structure and found it to be safe. The business is planning on being back open today.

The estimated damage to the building and merchandise inside the store is $75,000.

No charges will be laid in this matter.

The Guelph Police Service investigated six other collisions yesterday and driving charges were laid in only one of the reported collisions.

There were 53 vehicles that were stopped for traffic enforcement and 39 drivers were cited for provincial offences.
