LCBO parking lot collision leads to impaired charges for 73-year-old driver

On Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018 at approximately 5:46 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision in the LCBO parking lot on Trafalgar Road in Hillsburgh involving several parked vehicles.

Officers attended the scene and located the male driver sitting in the driver's seat of his sport utility vehicle with the keys. While speaking with the male, officers formed the opinion that the driver had alcohol in his body and he was placed under arrest for care or control of a motor vehicle. The male was transported to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

Seventy-three-year-old Joseph Houlihan of Hillsburgh has been charged with care or control over 80 mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood and care or control impaired contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on Sept. 11, 2018 to answer to the charges.

 A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute.
