On the afternoon of May 13, staff at a Guelph LCBO outlet contacted police after a man who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol came into a store to purchase alcohol. The staff refused to serve the man who then left the store, got into a Pontiac Grand Prix and drove away.

Police were contacted and located the vehicle on Cedar Street. When the vehicle was stopped, observations by the officer led to the male driver being arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. The driver was transported to the station where he failed subsequent testing and was further charged with drive over .08mgs.

David Donabie, 41 years of age from Guelph, was later released to appear in court at a later date.
