Long weekend results in an abundance of racing charges

WELLINGTON - On Friday, Aug. 11, 2017 at approximately 12:30 p.m., a Wellington County OPP officer was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 7, near Ponsonby. The officer observed a male driving a 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit.

The vehicle was locked on radar at 132 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. Further investigation revealed the driver did not possess a valid driver's licence.

36-year-old Billie Joe Comeau of Cambridge has been charged with race a motor vehicle and drive no licence contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and will appear in Guelph Provincial Court on Sept. 20, 2017.Her driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.

MAPLETON - On Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017 at approximately 7 a.m., a Wellington County OPP officer was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 7, near Rothsay. The officer observed a male driving a 2004 Dodge pickup at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit.

The vehicle was locked on radar at 136 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

51-year-old John Henry DeKlein of Puslinch has been charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and will appear in Guelph Provincial Court on Nov. 1, 2017. His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.

GUELPH - On Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017 at approximately 9 p.m., a Wellington County OPP officer was monitoring traffic on Highway 6 near College Avenue in the City of Guelph. The officer observed a male driving a 2012 Acura TL travelling at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit.

The vehicle was locked on radar at 138 km/h in a 70 km/h zone.

20-year-old Dustin James Siminoski of Guelph has been charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and will appear in Guelph Provincial Court on Nov. 1, 2017.His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.

GUELPH - On Friday, Sept. 1, 2017 at approximately 1:30 a.m., a Wellington County OPP officer was monitoring traffic on Highway 6 near Laird Road in the City of Guelph. The officer observed a male driving a 2006 Pontiac Montana travelling at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit.

The vehicle was locked on radar at 137 km/h in a 80 km/h zone.

51-year-old Donald E. Chafe of Hamilton has been charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and will appear in Guelph Provincial Court on Nov. 1, 2017. His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.

WELLINGTON - On Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017 at approximately 1 a.m., a Wellington County OPP officer was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 109 west of Arthur. The officer observed a female driving a 2010 Nissan Sedan travelling at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit.

The vehicle was locked on radar at 137 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. Further investigation revealed the driver's license had expired.

42-year-old Leann Emoff of Aurora has been charged with race a motor vehicle and drive no license contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and will appear in Guelph Provincial Court on Nov. 1, 2017.

On Sunday September 3, 2017 at approximately 10 a.m., a Wellington County OPP officer was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 124 at the east edge of Guelph. The officer observed a male driving a 2005 Dodge Ram travelling at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit.

The vehicle was locked on radar at 117 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

35-year-old Thomas C. J. VanGrootel of Kitchener has been charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and will appear in Guelph Provincial Court on Nov. 1, 2017. His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
