Male arrested following reports of someone swinging a hatchet and yelling

A Guelph male faces weapons charges after someone was seen swinging a hatchet and yelling at people outside a south-end business Thursday, report Guelph police on Friday.

Approximately 3:45 p.m., police were called to a business in the area of Edinburgh Road South and Stone Road. A caller advised a male was outside the business swinging a hatchet and aggressively yelling at people coming and going.

The male left on a bicycle before police arrived, but he was located in the area of Edinburgh Road South and Forest Street and arrested. A search incident to arrest revealed a hatchet in the male’s backpack and a folding knife in his pocket.

A 38-year-old Guelph male is charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and two counts of breaching probation. He will appear in a Guelph court Dec. 10.
