A Toronto male faces charges after spitting Sunday on a Guelph police officer.

Approximately 2:30 a.m. Sunday, police were called regarding a male in distress in Margaret Greene Park on Westwood Road. The male was agitated, swearing at police and threatening to harm himself. He was apprehended and taken to Guelph General Hospital for assessment, but during the transfer threatened the officers several times.

The male was placed in an examination room, but continued to be aggressive and spat at one of the officers, striking him on the neck. Investigation revealed the male is bound by a bail condition requiring him to be in his residence daily between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

A 25-year-old Toronto male is charged with assaulting police and failing to comply with a judicial release order.
