Male charged with assaulting two police officers

A male is facing several charges after two Guelph Police Service officers were assaulted while investigating a disturbance downtown Saturday morning.

Approximately 2:10 a.m. Saturday, officers were called to a disturbance at an address on Carden Street. Investigation revealed a female had allegedly been assaulted and had her cellphone smashed. A male was arrested, and while being escorted to a police cruiser spat in the face of one of the officers.

The male was taken to Guelph General Hospital for medical treatment, and while there kneed a second officer in the face. Neither officer sustained serious injuries.

Investigation revealed the male was bound by several court conditions, including one requiring him to reside at an address in Fergus and obey a 24-hour curfew.

A 42-year-old male is charged with two counts of assault police, assault, mischief, three counts of failing to comply with a release order and breaching probation. He will appear in a Guelph bail court Friday.
