TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON - On June 6, 2019 at approximately 4:30 p.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police officer was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 109 west of Arthur. The officer observed a red pickup truck travelling above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 145 km/h.

While speaking with the driver, officers formed the opinion that they were impaired by alcohol. The driver was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Jose G. Couto, 65-years-old of Listowel, has been charged with impaired operation, racing and refusing to comply with a demand for breath sample.

A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on July 9, 2019.
