At approximately 6:15 p.m. on Nov. 7, police were contacted by patrons of a downtown restaurant when a man stood outside the establishment and purposely aimed what was believed to be a long gun at patrons inside. Patrons inside backed away from the windows in fear from the man’s actions.

Police confronted the man and learned that the suspected long gun was in fact a pool cue. That in no way excused the man’s behaviour and the 56-year-old Guelph man, identified as Mark DeSouza, was arrested and charged with mischief for interfering with the lawful enjoyment of the downtown with intent to alarm.

He was later released and will appear in court in December.
