Two counts of uttering threats have been laid against a 40-year-old Guelph man following an incident at a north end business on Thursday afternoon.

At about 4:20 p.m. a man entered a business on Woodlawn Road West, near Woolwich Street, explains a Guelph Police news release. Staff reportedly recognized him from a shoplifting incident earlier in the week and began to follow him.

The man became agitated and allegedly threatened to “mace” the employees before reaching into a fanny pack he was wearing and removing something.

Staff retreated and called police.

Officers found the suspect nearby. He was not found to be carrying any weapons.

In addition to the uttering threats charges, the accused is also charged with breaching probation.
