A woman was assaulted by a stranger while she was walking her dog on Thursday afternoon, leading to the arrest of a Guelph man.
The woman was walking in the area of Woolwich Street and Suffolk Street East at about 4:40 p.m. when a male carrying a hockey stick reportedly approached her from behind and pushed her.
The victim was not physically injured, notes a police news release.
Based on the victim’s description of the suspect, police officers believe they knew the man’s identity. He was located downtown just after 9 p.m. and arrested for assault.
A subsequent search reportedly revealed he was in possession of another man’s identity documents.
A 25-year-old Guelph man is charged with assault, possessing identity documents and breach of probation.
