Guelph Police arrested a 26-year-old Guelph man early Wednesday morning in connection with the break-in and vandalism at a downtown residential building five days earlier.

Police say that on Friday at 10:50 p.m., a man entered a residential building without authorization located near the downtown core.

He went to the 10th floor landing of the stairwell and allegedly vandalized two walls with a marker. He then urinated down the stairwell. At that point, he proceeded to the first floor where he damaged two separate storage closet doors in an attempt to break in. No entry was gained.

On Wednesday just after midnight police found the man at a residence near the intersection of Imperial Road North and Speedvale Avenue West. He was subsequently arrested and charged with:

- Break, enter and commit indictable offence

- Mischief under $5,000

- Two counts of breaching a probation order

He will appear in court on Feb. 12.
