A man arrested following a series of break-ins and attempted break-ins on Friday morning had a “large knife” hidden in his jacket, say police.

Officers were called to the area of Durham Street and Glasgow Street North shortly before 7:30 a.m. that day after receiving a call about a man who attempted to enter vehicles in a driveway and then unsuccessfully tried to get inside the house, before giving up and unsuccessfully trying to get into another home.

While police were responding, a male matching the suspect’s description was reported to have entered a home on Raymond Street, where he was confronted by the homeowner and fled, a police news release explains. Investigation revealed he had entered a second home on Raymond Street and had taken a bicycle from a shed at a third home.

A man was found inside the carport at another home and arrested.

Police recovered a quantity of stolen property and found a large knife hidden in the man’s jacket.

A 36-year-old Guelph man is charged with four counts of break and enter, five counts of theft, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possessing break-in tools and three counts of breach of probation.
