Man charged with racing, impaired driving

TOWN OF MINTO - On Aug. 19, 2017 at approximately 6:15 p.m., an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed a motor vehicle travelling westbound on Highway 89 near County Road 2, Town of Minto at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar at 132 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

A traffic stop was conducted and while speaking with the driver, the officer observed signs of alcohol consumption. A roadside screening test was conducted which resulted in a fail. He was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

Thirty-three-year-old Jeffery Robert Ott of Mount Forest has been charged with over 80 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada, race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act, and driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available contrary to the Liquor Licence Act.

His driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days as per statute. He is to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on Sept. 29, 2017 to answer to the charges.
