A Guelph man later turned himself in to police after driving onto a sidewalk to flee from police downtown Wednesday afternoon.

He was charged with dangerous driving.

Police say around 4 p.m. they were called to a downtown apartment for a disturbance. A man arrived in his vehicle and continuously sounded his car’s horn while screaming profanities at officers. He refused to lower his window or identify himself, and fled from officers along Macdonell Street.

Police attempted to stop the accused by blocking his path at Macdonell Street and Carden Street, however the male drove onto the sidewalk and sped away while squealing his tires. In the interest of public safety officers did not pursue him.

Approximately 90 minutes later the male attended the police station and was arrested. A 44-year-old Guelph male is charged with dangerous driving, flight from police and breach probation.
