Man, woman arrested in relation to separate shoplifting incidents

Both arrests happened after loss prevention officers in the stores called police

Guelph Police made two separate shoplifting arrests on Tuesday.

At around 9:30 p.m. an adult male was observed allegedly shoplifting $414 worth of merchandise by the loss prevention officer of a store near the intersection of Woodlawn Road West and Woolwich Street.

Police say the male was observed ripping open packaging, concealing items in a bag and placing the empty packaging back on the shelf. 

The merchandise included chocolate bars, women's razors and electric toothbrushes.

Police were called and the man was located still inside the store and arrested.

A 33-year- old Guelph man has been charged with theft under $5,000 and fail to comply with judicial release order x 2.

He will appear in court Feb. 19t.

Earlier that day a woman was also arrested and for shoplifting in the same area.

She was observed allegedly shoplifting $474 worth of merchandise by a loss prevention officer after reportedly being observed concealing items in her backpack and purse. The stolen merchandise included headphones, a speaker and food items.

Police arrived and arrested the woman inside the store.

A 22-year-old Guelph woman has been charged with theft under $5,000.

She will appear in court on Jan. 12.
