The Guelph Police Services Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Robert Carter to the board, effective Jan. 1, 2019. Mr. Carter was appointed to the board at a recent meeting of Guelph City Council, at which time both Mayor Cam Guthrie and Councillor Christine Billings were reappointed to the board for a four-year term.

Mr. Carter retired from the University of Guelph after a 44-year working career spanning a number of senior leadership positions, which included associate vice-president of physical resources at the University of Guelph, director of facilities management at Dalhousie University, and director of physical plant at McMaster University.

Throughout his career he has been active in several community/volunteer activities, the latest as a member of the Board of Directors of Guelph General Hospital. In this capacity he held the positions of chair of the board, chair of the Administration and Facilities Committee, chair of the Audit Committee, member of the Waterloo Wellington Local Health Integration Network (WWLHIN) Board Chairs and Vice Chairs Group and the Wellington/Guelph Mental Health and Addictions Emergency Services Group. Bob is excited about bringing his previous working and board experience to serving the community as a member of the Guelph Police Services Board.

Bob and his wife, Judi, have one daughter.

“We welcome Mr. Carter to the board,” said Don Drone, chair of the board. “Mr. Carter’s extensive professional and volunteer experience in executive positions in education and health care will be a significant asset in our continuation of good governance for our exceptional police force.”

The Guelph Police Services Board is comprised of five members. Two are appointed by the province; two are members of City Council and one a community representative appointed to the board by City Council. Mr. Carter will take the place of Mr. Len Griffiths, whose term of appointment as community representative will expire on Dec. 31, 2018. Mr. Griffiths has served as a member for the past 8 years and is well respected by the board and the Police Service for his dedication to his responsibilities and his great interest in policy and procedure.
