The Guelph Police were involved in 545 incidents in the past 24 hours

Police assaulted

On Friday, July 29, 2016 at 7:40am, Guelph Police were called to an address on Norwich for a disturbance call.  Police were immediately confronted by a male that was aggressive.  After a short confrontation, 18 year old Dylon Knight, of Guelph, was arrested and charged with three counts of assault police and one count of utter threats.   He was given a September 14, 2016 court date.  There were no serious injuries as a result of this incident.

Collision with cyclist

On Friday, July 29, 2016 at 6:45pm, a Toyota, driven by a 69 year old Guelph male, was northbound on Gordon Street, in the curb lane.  A cyclist, a 28 year old Guelph male, was northbound in the bicycle lane.   At the intersection of Gordon and Clair, the bicycle and vehicle collided.  The driver of the Toyota was charged with turn – not in safety under the Highway Traffic Act.  There were minimal injuries in this collision.  The cyclist was wearing a helmet.

Impaired drivers

On Friday, July 29, 2016 at 11:46pm police were called to the area of the bus terminal, where there was reports of an impaired driver.  Police located the vehicle and driver.  As a result of this investigation, Roderick Mackinnon, a 37 year old Guelph male was arrested and charged with impaired driving and failing to provide breath sample.  He will appear in court on September 2, 2016.
On Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 3:40am police were called to the intersection of Goodwin and Farley, where there was a report that a Volkswagon had struck a hydro pole.  As a result of the investigation, Khalid Mohamed, a 20 year old Guelph male, was charged with impaired driving.  He will appear in court on August 12, 2016.

Assault arrest

On Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 12:40am police patrolling the downtown area were flagged down by two individuals who were reporting being assaulted.  As a result of the investigation, Tara Spontaneo, a 29 year old Guelph female, was charged with two counts of assault.  She will appear in court on September 2, 2016.

Shoplifter arrested by off duty officer

On Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 1:14pm, it is alleged that an off duty officer observed a male conceal items from a store in the downtown area and leave without making any attempts to pay for them.  The male was arrested by the off duty officer.  As a result of this investigation, a 38 year old Georgetown male was charged with theft under, possession of a controlled substance and breaching his probation order.  He was held for a bail hearing.

Malicious damage

On Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 4:05pm, police were called to the Shelldale Splashpad, where there was report of youths causing damage to the bathrooms.  As a result of this investigation, two 16 year old males and an 18 year old male were arrested and charged with mischief under $5000.  The 18 year old was further charged with breaching his probation order.

Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

On Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 7:00pm, Guelph Police stopped a vehicle on Victoria Road South for a Highway Traffic Act infraction.  Police began speaking to the driver and initiated a drug investigation.  As a result of this investigation, Khalil Ghoosi, a 21 year old Guelph male, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and breaching his probation order.  He will appear in court on August 30, 2016.

Break and enter reports

On July 30, 2016, the Guelph Police went to a Hand Drive residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered and stole tools. On July 31, 2016, the Guelph Police went to a Walnut Drive residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered sometime over the night of July 30, 2016 and stole money. On July 31, 2016, the Guelph Police went to a Sackville Street residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered and stole video games.
