Single car collision
On August 14, 2016 at 12:25 a.m., the Guelph Police went to Clairfields Drive East for a collision. It is alleged that a red Nissan was southbound on Farley Drive from Clairfields Drive East when it left the roadway striking a utility light standard. The driver of the motor vehicle was located at the scene. Police spoke with him, determined he was impaired by alcohol and he was arrested.
Matthew Jupp, 37 years old, of Guelph, has been charged with impaired driving and drive over 80 mg. He will appear in court on August 30, 2016.
Break and enter
On August 13, 2016 at 8:29 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a vacant Huron Street building to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) broke a window to gain entry and set off the alarm. No theft has been reported.

Break and enter
On August 13, 2016 at 10:25 a.m., the Guelph Police received the report of a break and enter at a Hadati Road residence. The resident believes the break in occurred on August 9 between 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. The culprit(s) entered through an unlocked front door. The theft of a laptop and personal identification is reported.

Theft
On August 13, 2016 the Guelph Police went to a business on Speedvale Avenue West for the report of a theft. Sometime overnight, a trailer on the property that contained thousands worth of heating and cooling equipment was stolen.

Arrest on Guelph Street
On August 15, 2016 at 12:10 a.m., Guelph Police on patrol in the area of Guelph Street observed a male walking alone. The male then walked between two homes on the street. Police located him hiding on the property. Investigation determined that this was not his property and he was arrested.
A 50-year-old Guelph man has been charged with trespass by night. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on August 15, 2016.
Impaired driver arrested
On August 14, 2016 at 2:14 a.m., Guelph Police observed a motor vehicle driving erratically on Fife Road and a traffic stop was conducted. Police spoke with the male driver and a demand was made for a roadside breath sample. He failed this test and was arrested.
Sirivanh Homsombath, 32 years of Kitchener has been charged with impaired driving and drive over 80 mg. He will appear in court on August 30, 2016.
Theft from cars
Over the weekend the Guelph Police received ten reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Lowes Road, Clairfields Drive West, Sackville Street, Amos Drive, John Street, Foster Avenue, Woolwich Street and three on Norma Crescent.
This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible. Load securement information initiative
On August 13, 2016 at 10:13 a.m., the Guelph Police received a report of a car pulling a trailer dropping pieces of wood onto the roadway as it travelled southbound on Victoria Road. The involved motor vehicle was located a short time later at public drop-off area of the City of Guelph Waste Resource Innovation Center on Dunlop Drive. As officers were speaking to the involved motorist, it was noticed that a significant number of citizens were arriving at the site with insecure loads.
City of Guelph staff made officers aware of a recently published information handout that explained load securement responsibilities and tips. These handouts were prepared for staff to handout to motorists at the location.
Between the hours of 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. members of the Guelph Police stationed themselves at the entrances to the public drop-off areas and spoke to motorists arriving with insecure loads. Individual load securement issues were pointed out and each driver was given a caution and an information handout.
It became clear during these contacts that load securement requirements were not understood by many drivers.
