Second man arrested after foot pursuit

Just after 9 p.m. on Sunday night, police saw two males walking in the area of Wyndham and Macdonell Streets. One of those males was a 16-year-old young person who was wanted in connection to a mischief incident that had occurred at a Belleview residence earlier in the day. Police were able to approach and arrest the young person when the second man ran off. After a foot pursuit of a few blocks, the second man was apprehended. It was learned that the 32-year-old Guelph man was in breach of a condition of previous court recognizance and is to appear in Guelph court for a bail hearing.

When police searched the young person they found, what it is believed to be, methamphetamine and marijuana on his person. He was charged with mischief, two counts of drug possession and breach of probation and released to appear before a Guelph court at a later date

Additional charges for man on release

On Friday, Feb. 10, at approximately 10:25 p.m., police approached a man on Carden Street that was on release in the community for a number of charges related to thefts from vehicles on Jan. 30. One of those conditions was that he was supposed to be in his residence between certain hours and this time was outside of that time period.

He was arrested for failing to comply with his undertaking and when he was searched during the arrest, he was found to be in possession of a folding knife, marihuana, banking documents and property that did not belong to him.

The 33-year-old Guelph man was charged with theft under $5,000, theft of credit card, two counts of failing to comply with his undertaking and possession for the purpose of trafficking. He is scheduled to appear in bail court.

Break and enters   

At approximately 5 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 12, an Eramosa Road business had its front window smashed out and its cash box taken from the inside.

Police were called to ensure that no one was still inside a Wyndham Street office when staff came by on Sunday evening just before 7pm and found the front door broken. No one was found inside and at this point it is unknown what, if anything, was taken.

The laundry room of a Speedvale Avenue apartment building was broken into sometime over the weekend and the laundry machines were damaged in order to get the change from inside.

Stolen Vehicles

On Friday evening a Deerpath Drive resident reported to police that his Black 2016 Suzuki GSXR 750 had been stolen from beside the garage of the home.

A green four door 1999 Toyota Tercel was taken overnight on Friday from the parking lot of a Scottsdale Drive apartment building.

Traffic-related incidents

It was not surprising that the blast of winter weather created icy driving conditions that were challenging to drivers that were out and about on Guelph roadways over the weekend. Police responded to 30 collisions where in a handful of those there was some pretty heavy damage to vehicles and some minor injuries were reported.

Police stopped almost 100 vehicles over the course of the weekend and laid Highway Traffic Act charges in 50 of those traffic stops.

The Guelph Police Service responded to 625 calls for service over the weekend.
