Guelph Police Service dealt with 589 calls for service over the weekend

The following news releases were issued today by the Guelph Police Service:

Distracted driving
On July 15, 2018 at approximately 11 a.m., the Guelph Police were on foot patrol in the area of Norfolk Street and MacDonell Street looking for distracted drivers. In a span of one hour, police issued one distracted driving ticket and one seatbelt ticket.  

Theft - arrest
On July 14, 2018 at approximately 7:50 p.m., Guelph Police were called to a business located at the corner of Speedvale Avenue and Stevenson Street in regard to a theft in progress. Members of the public helped detain the suspect until Police arrived.

As a result, Jason Bull, a 27-year-old Guelph male, was arrested for theft under $5,000 as well as possession of stolen property. Bull is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 28, 2018.

Assault - arrest
On July 14, 2018 at approximately 10 p.m., Guelph Police were called to Starview Crescent Park in regard to a disturbance.

Through investigation, it was learned that a female had (allegedly) assaulted three other parties. As a result of the investigation, Terry Sodaro, a 53-year-old Guelph female, was arrested for three counts of assault. Sodaro is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 7, 2018.

Over 80 - arrest
On July 16, 2018 at approximately 1:15 a.m., Guelph Police stopped a vehicle for a Highway Traffic Act infraction in the area of College Avenue and Victoria Road.

Police spoke with the driver, and after speaking with the driver, the male was arrested for over 80.

Dean Long, a 28-year-old Guelph male, is scheduled to appear in court on July 31, 2018.

From 6 a.m. on July 13, 2018 until 6 a.m. on July 16, 2018, the Guelph Police Service dealt with 589 calls for service.
