Guelph Police Service dealt with 681 calls for service over the weekend

The following news releases were issued today by the Guelph Police Service:

Assault arrest
On June 16, 2018 at approximately 1:02 a.m., Guelph Police were called to the downtown in regard to a male who had just assaulted another male. Police located the responsible male and he was arrested for assault as well as breaching his Probation Order.

Chris LeBlanc, a 33-year-old Guelph male appeared in court on June 16, 2018.    
 
Break and enter arrest
On June 17, 2018, at approximately 1 p.m., Guelph Police were called to an apartment complex on Queen Street in regard to a break and enter in progress. The female was detained at the scene until Police arrived and she was placed under arrest. Through further investigation, Police learned the female was also responsible for previous break and enters to the apartment complex within the last week.

A 28-year-old Guelph female is to appear in court on June 18, 2018, for three counts of break and enter.

Police presence on Elizabeth Street
On June 17, 2018 at approximately 3:24 p.m., Guelph Police received a call in regard to a male with a firearm. Police attended to the residence on Elizabeth Street and the Tactical Unit was called in to assist.

The male exited the house on his own accord and through Police negotiations, he was taken into custody without incident at approximately 6:11 p.m.
A 44-year-old Guelph male was charged with pointing a firearm, weapons dangerous and three counts of uttering a threat to cause death. He is to appear in court on June 18, 2018.

West end fire
The following media release is being posted on behalf of the Guelph Fire Department. Any inquiries should be made to Chief Osborne at 519-824-6590.

On Monday, June 18, 2018, the Guelph Fire Department responded to a reported fire at 115 Elmira Rd. N.

Arriving at the scene, firefighters found a deck on fire at the back of the house. A gate to the backyard was forced open to gain access to the fire.

The fire was quickly brought under control and subsequently extinguished. Extensive overhaul was performed by crews on scene in order to insure the fire had not extended into the house.

There were no injuries to the residents or firefighters.

The cause of the fire, along with a damage estimate, is under investigation by Guelph Fire investigators.
