On Sunday, June 18, at approximately 1:29 a.m., police observed a 2013 Hyundai Elantra to be travelling northbound on the Hanlon Parkway at excessive speeds.

Impaired driver arrested driving dangerously

On Sunday, June 18, at approximately 1:29 a.m., police observed a 2013 Hyundai Elantra to be travelling northbound on the Hanlon Parkway at excessive speeds. The vehicle was locked in on moving radar travelling at speeds as high as 133km/h in a posted 70 km/h zone (63 km/h over the speed limit). As the vehicle travelled northbound on the Hanlon Parkway, it was observed to weave in and out of traffic at excessive speeds, at one point nearly colliding with the rear of an unsuspecting vehicle. Police were able to stop the vehicle safely.  

An investigation into the matter resulted in a 23-year-old male driver from Windsor being charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Over 80mg, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Speeding – 133 km/h in a posted 70 km/h zone, and Stunt Driving - Drive at a rate of speed – 50 km/h or more over speed limit.

Also, the driver was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for a period of 7 days as per statute.

Two 3-Day Driver’s Licence Suspensions in one traffic stop

On Friday, June 16, at approximately 9:34 p.m., a Guelph Police traffic officer observed a black Toyota Corolla and a black Honda Civic to be closely following each other while travelling in the south end of the City. Both vehicles were showing characteristics of the drivers being possibly impaired. The traffic officer was able to stop both vehicles and found that both drivers were known to each other. 

An investigation resulted in the following:

The 23-year-old male driver of the black Toyota Corolla was issued a 3 Day Driver’s Licence Suspension due to having enough alcohol in his body to register in the “Warn Range”.

The 23-year-old female driver of the black Honda Civic was issued a 3 Day Driver’s Licence Suspension due to having enough alcohol in her body to register in the “Warn Range” and she was also issued a ticket for being on her cell phone while driving.

Over the course of the weekend there were also two other drivers who had their driver’s licenses suspended for “warn” alcohol readings on separate traffic stops.

Break and enter

Sometime between 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. on June 18, an unknown suspect(s) gained entry to a Bristol Street residence through the front door. Once inside there was a quantity of cash, jewelry and coins taken from inside.
