Break and enter, bikes stolen On June 19, 2016 at 3:30 a.m., the Guelph Police made person stops with two males after they had been seen walking on Gordon Street and were now on bikes.

On June 19, 2016 at 3:30 a.m., the Guelph Police made person stops with two males after they had been seen walking on Gordon Street and were now on bikes. Investigation discovered that both bikes had just been stolen form an apartment building storage area and the males were arrested. The subsequent search found a tool consistent with break and enters on one of the men.

Michael Matte, 39 years of Guelph has been charged with break and enter, possession of stolen property, possession of break and enter instruments and breach of probation. He will appear in court on June 20, 2016.

Benjamin Mannhardt, 45 years of Guelph has been charged with break and enter and possession of stolen property. He will appear in court on July 15, 2016.

Break and enter

On June 20, 2016 at 4 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a Woolwich Street residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) damaged the apartment’s front door to gain entry sometime between 5 p.m. and the time of the call to police. A lap top and Dewalt stereo are reported stolen.

Downtown drug arrest

On June 18, 2016 at 7:55 p.m., Guelph Police foot patrol in the downtown located a group of people by the fountain. One male sitting on the ground was holding a drug pipe on his lap and had a plastic baggy with what appeared to be Crystal Methamphetamine. The male was arrested.

John Hartung, 32 years old of Guelph has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and breach of probation. He will appear in court on July 12, 2016.

Drug arrest on Stone Road

On June 18, 2016 at 8:16 a.m., the Guelph Police went to assist Stone Road Mall security who advised there was a male in the area that they believed may be looking to steal a bicycle. Police located the male in the parking lot near Montana’s restaurant. Investigation discovered that the male was in possession of a small quantity of Crystal Methamphetamine and he was arrested.

Jason McLeod, 35 years old of Guelph has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and two counts of breach of probation. He will appear in court on July 15, 2016.

Two car collision

On June 17, 2016at approximately 10:00 p.m., the Guelph Police went to a collision at Elmira Road and Freshmeadow Way. It is alleged that a 2015 white four door Hyundai travelling south on Elmira was struck by a 2016 black four door Hyundai turning from Freshmeadow Way.

The driver of the black Hyundai, a 24-year-old Guelph male and a 20-year-old male passenger were transported to Guelph General Hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the white Hyundai sustained minor injuries but did not require transport to the hospital.

The driver of the black Hyundai as subsequently charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.

Break and enter

On June 17, 2016 at 8:50 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a Ptarmigan Drive residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered the garage sometime overnight and stole a bicycle and backpack.

Road safety enforcement on June 17

School zone - In the area of Willow Road from 8:25 a.m. - 9:15 a.m. - 4 tickets issued.

In the area of Niska Road and Ptarmigan Drive from 1:35 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. - 5 tickets issued in relation to trucks being too heavy.

Theft from cars

Over the weekend the Guelph Police received nine reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Pinnacle Crescent, Ginger Court, Dawn Avenue, Terraview Crescent, Somerset Glen and 4 on Bushmills Crescent.

This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible.
