Over the weekend, the Guelph Police Service dealt with 683 calls for service.

The following news releases were issued today by the Guelph Police Service:

Single motor vehicle collision results in arrest
On March 15, 2019 at approximately 9:15 p.m., Guelph Police responded to the report of a vehicle striking a light post in the area of Willow Road and Silvercreek Parkway. With the assistance of a concerned citizen, police located the responsible driver who had fled the scene.

A 30-year-old Guelph male has been charged with Impaired Driving.  He will appear in court on April 2, 2019

Weekend R.I.D.E. Statistics
On both Saturday and Sunday evening of the past weekend, Guelph Police conducted spot checks at various spots throughout the city.

March 16, 2019:

  • 1500 vehicles checked
  • A 46 year old Guelph male and a 55 year old Guelph female face impaired driving charges and both will appear in court on April 2, 2019.  
  • One 3 days driver’s licence suspension was issued

March 17th, 2019:z

  • 1700 vehicles checked
  • 6 roadside tests administered
  • Two 3 days driver’s licence suspensions were issued
  • 6 Part III summons issued
  • 1 ticket for young driver BAC over 0.

Traffic Stop Leads to two arrests
On March 16, 2019 at approximately 8:00 a.m., Guelph Police were proactively patrolling Woolwich Street. Officers conducted a traffic stop on vehicle for failing to signal a turn onto Marilyn Drive. The female driver falsely identified herself and she was arrested.

The 28-year-old Guelph woman is charged with Obstruct Police, Drive No Licence and Fail to Signal Turn under the Highway Traffic Act. The passenger in the vehicle, a 34-year-old Guelph male was also arrested for Fail to Comply with Recognizance.

Disturbance downtown - Two males arrested
On March 17, 2019 at approximately 2:53 a.m., Guelph Police became involved with a group of males on MacDonnell Street. Investigation lead to two males being arrested for public intoxication. Both males resisted police in their attempt to arrest them.

The two 19-year-old males from Chatsworth have both been charged with resist arrest and being intoxicated in a public place. They will appear in court on April 23, 2019.

Break and enter
On March 16, 2019, the Guelph Police went to a Speedvale Avenue East church for a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered sometime overnight stealing cash, cheques and a laptop.

Theft/damage to cars
Over the weekend the Guelph Police received six reports of damage and or theft from cars. In four of these incidents windows were smashed and a theft of property that had been visible occurred. In two incidents, cars had been left unlocked and a theft occurred.

This crime is easily avoidable. Please lock your cars and do not leave and belongings visible. If you do become a victim of this crime you can report it through the Guelph Police online reporting portal.
