Weapons seized

Just before noon hour on Mar. 3, police went to a Gordon Street apartment to check the well-being of a male that was reported as being in a mental health crisis. One of the major concerns was that the man was in possession of weapons that may be used by him in his moment of distress.

Police were able to successfully speak with the 26-year-old Guelph man for a period of time and for his own safety, he was apprehended under the Mental Health Act. During the interaction with the man,  a shotgun was located and as a result,  he was later summonsed to appear before a Guelph court in April for careless storage of firearm.

Man loitering in building arrested

At approximately 9:45 p.m. on Mar. 5, the owner of a Norwich Street building called police about two people that were loitering in the lobby of his building. When police arrived and spoke to the two people, investigation revealed that one of the males was wanted on an outstanding warrant for fraud-related charges. The 25-year-old Guelph man was apprehended and is scheduled to appear in bail court.

Impaired man asleep behind the wheel

At approximately 4:30 on Mar. 4, police received information regarding a black Mazda that was parked and running on Wyndham Street with its driver asleep at the wheel. When police arrived and attempted to awake the male to speak with him, that interaction led to the man being arrested for impaired care and control of a motor vehicle. When the male was transported to the station for additional testing, those results led to a further charge of care and control of a motor vehicle- over 80mgs.

48-year-old Shawn Mooney of Hamilton was released to appear before a Guelph court in April.
