Commercial motor vehicle safety blitz On May 13, 2016 the Guelph Police partnered with members of the Waterloo Regional Police and Halton Regional Police Commercial Motor Vehicle Units to conduct a commercial motor vehicle blitz.

On May 13, 2016 the Guelph Police partnered with members of the Waterloo Regional Police and Halton Regional Police Commercial Motor Vehicle Units to conduct a commercial motor vehicle blitz.  Officers conducted a total of 32 commercial vehicle inspections over the course of the day.  27 of the inspections were conducted on vehicles over 4500 kgs and resulted in 11 of them being taken out of service and the drivers issued 13 Highway Traffic Act tickets.  The other 5 inspections were conducted on vehicles under 4500 kgs with 4 of them being taken out of service and 23 Highway Traffic act tickets issued.  HTA fines issued during the blitz exceeded $7,000.

Enforcement blitzes are regularly conducted by the Guelph Police to demonstrate our commitment to roads safety for all users.

Break and enter

On May 16, 2016 at 3 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a Macdonell Street business to investigate a break and enter. The complainant observed a female enter the business and leave with an armful of items wrapped in a blanket. She is described as white, approximately 25 years, heavyset with dark hair. She was wearing a purple hoody and was last seen heading westbound on Carden Street.

Impaired driver arrested

On May 14, 2016 at 3:20 p.m., the Guelph Police went to a collision on Woolwich Street and Woodlawn Road. A tractor trailer struck the rear end of another vehicle. Police spoke with the driver of the truck, determined him to be impaired and he was arrested.

William Shubrook, 60 years of Caledon has been charged with impaired driving and drive over 80 mg. He will appear in court on June 3, 2016.

Bicycle’s stolen

Bike theft continues to be a regular occurrence in Guelph. Five more bike thefts were reported to the Guelph Police this weekend. The locations were Macdonell Street, James Street West, Wellington Street West, Deerpath Drive and Floral Drive. In all of these incidents the bikes were either locked or on the owners property.

Theft from cars

Over the weekend the Guelph Police received four reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were University Avenue West, Brant Avenue, Pheasant Run Drive and Weir Drive.

This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible. Shoplifter arrested

On May 14, 2016 at 5:45 p.m., the Guelph Police went to Sears on Stone Road to assist with a shoplifter. A female had left the store with items she did not pay for and was arrested outside of the store by Loss Prevention. Police attended and continued the arrest.  Further investigation determined that the female had identified with a false name.

Krystal Lahey, 33 years of Cambridge has been charged with theft under $5,000, obstruct police and two counts of breach of recognizance. She will appear in court on May 16, 2016.
