On November 11, 2016 at 1:17 p.m., the Guelph Police went to the Stone Road Mall to investigate the report that a man had threatened three other males with a switch blade style knife.

Man with knife arrested

On Nov. 11, 2016 at 1:17 p.m., the Guelph Police went to the Stone Road Mall to investigate the report that a man had threatened three other males with a switch blade style knife. Police located the man in the Dollar Store and he was arrested.

Ben Tran, 19 years of Guelph has been charged with three counts of assault with a weapon, weapons dangerous, carry a concealed weapon and prohibited weapon. He will appear in court on Dec. 9, 2016.

Fraud arrest

On Nov. 12, 2016 the Guelph Police became involved in a fraud investigation. A Guelph man had lost his Visa card sometime overnight and was now seeing use of the card on his account. He saw where the most recent use was and attended to this location on Silvercreek Parkway North. He spoke with the store employees who gave him a description of the man that made the purchase. He then located the man in the area and called police. Police arrived shortly after and arrested the man. A subsequent search discovered cheques that had been reported stolen on Nov. 9, 2016 and a prohibited knife. Investigation has found that a second male was also involved. He has been identified and is presently being sought by police.

Tyler Curzon-Watt, 25 years of Guelph has been charged with possession of stolen property, carry a concealed weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon, use stolen credit card, three counts of breach of probation and two counts of breach weapon prohibition. He will appear in court on Nov. 14, 2016.

Break and enters

-On Nov. 11, 2016 at 8:37 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a Summerfield Drive residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered the back yard shed sometime overnight and stole a bike and trailer.

-On Nov. 11, 2016 at 10:08 p.m., the Guelph Police went to a Paul Avenue building to investigate a break and enter. A resident heard the laundry machine running after the 10 p.m. cutoff time and went to see who was doing laundry. An unknown male was in the room and fled out the back door. The laundry machine coin dispenser was damaged but no theft occurred.

The man is described as white, in his thirties, approximately 5’8”, slender build with thin black hair. He was wearing a black hoodie.

-On Nov. 11, 2016 at 11:53 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a Vaughan Street residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered the home through the unlocked front door while the residents were home. A theft is reported.

-On Nov. 13, 2016 at 10:13 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a Niska Road residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered the unlocked front door and stole two pair of Nike shoes sometime overnight.

-On Nov. 12, 2016 at 2:31 p.m., the Guelph Police went to an Eramosa Road residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered the basement apartment through an unlocked window. It is unknown at this time if a theft occurred.

Shoplifter arrested

On Oct. 12, 2016 the Guelph Police began an investigation into a shoplifting incident at a Wellington Street business. It is alleged that the male concealed merchandise in his backpack and left the store without paying for it.  The manager followed the man outside and told the man that police were being called. The man then chased the manager back into the store and pushed him to the ground before fleeing the area.

Guelph Police investigation led to the identity of the man and on November 11, 2016 at 8:22 p.m. he was arrested.

Matthew Pleau, 30 years of Guelph has been charged with theft under $5,000, assault and three counts of breach of probation.  He will appear in court on Nov. 25, 2016.

Hit and run

On Nov. 12, 2016, just after 5 p.m., the Guelph Police responded to a hit and run collision on Cole Road. The impact from the collision caused a cement light standard to fall. The responsible motor vehicle was last seen reversing from the area towards the Ironwood Road area. It is believed that there will be significant damage to the front end of the motor vehicle as a result of the collision. It is unknown if any injuries were sustained by the driver.

Drive over 80 mg

On Nov. 12, 2016 at 12:40 a.m., the Guelph Police conducted a traffic stop with a motor vehicle on Wellington Street East. Police spoke with the male driver and a demand was made for a roadside breath sample. He failed this test and was arrested.

Edwin Haugen, 52 years of Guelph has been charged with drive over 80 mg. He will appear in court on Nov. 22, 2016.

Impaired driving

On Nov. 12, 2016 at 1:30 a.m., the Guelph Police received the report of a possible impaired driver coming into Guelph on Highway 124. Police later located the vehicle driving on Silvercreek Parkway/Waterloo Avenue and conducted a traffic stop. Police spoke with the male driver, determined he was impaired by alcohol and he was arrested.

Gustavo Wilches, 45 years of Cambridge has been charged with impaired driving and drive over 80 mg. He will appear in court on Nov. 25, 2016.

Impaired driving (drugs)

On Nov. 12, 2016 at 8:47 p.m., the Guelph Police conducted a traffic stop with a motor vehicle on Woolwich Street. Police spoke to the male driver and determined that he was impaired by drugs and he was arrested.

Khalil Ghoosi, 22 years of Guelph has been charged with impaired driving (by drug) and Breach undertaking. He will appear in court on Nov. 29, 2016.

Bicycles stolen

Five more stolen bikes were reported stolen over the weekend from residential and commercial properties in Guelph. The locations were Forest Hill Drive, Cedar Street, Dufferin Street, Norfolk Street and Gordon Street.

Bike theft continues to be an ongoing concern. Heavy duty locks for bikes even when indoors gives you the best protection against theft.

Theft from cars

Over the weekend the Guelph Police received ten reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Foxwood Crescent, Glasgow Street North, Echo Drive, Deerchase Court, Tanager Drive, Wyndham Street South, Chesterton Lane, Woodlawn Road East and two on Hazelwood Drive.

This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible. Police incidents from Nov. 12 to Nov. 14 at 8:30 a.m.

The Guelph Police were involved in 372 incidents in this time frame. Incidents involve everything from traffic stops and accidental 911 calls to domestics and break and enters.
