Copper theft, collisions, and more

The following news releases were issued today by the Guelph Police Service:

Copper theft

Just after 5a.m. on Oct. 14, a York Road business owner interrupted a male that was removing copper from equipment at the rear of the business. The owner contacted police and held the man until police arrived.

Marc Robinette, a 49-year-old Guelph man was charged with theft under $5,000, mischief under $5,000 and possession of break and enter tools. He was later released and will appear in court at a later date.

Weather related calls

The high winds and driving rain that pounded the city on Sunday afternoon resulted in 21 calls to police in a two hour period between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. Trees were knocked down and power was affected in different locations. Fortunately no injuries were reported as a result of this fast moving weather event.  

Vehicle collisions

Police investigated 13 collisions over the course of the weekend. Minor injuries were reported in three of the collisions. Highway Traffic Act charges were laid in four of the collisions.

Calls for service

Over the weekend the Guelph Police Service responded to 683 calls for service.
