On October 2, 2016, the Guelph Police went to a Regal Road business to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered the property sometime overnight and stole approximately $6,000 worth of tools from a trailer.

Break and enter

On Oct. 2, 2016, the Guelph Police went to a London Road West residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered the home through a back door sometime overnight. A purse was stolen from the residence.

RIDE Program

On Oct. 1/2, 2016 between the hours of 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. the Guelph Police Service in partnership with the Wellington County OPP conducted a RIDE program in the City of Guelph.  600 vehicles were checked by officers with 12 roadside screening tests being administered.  Eight of the twelve drivers registered alcohol but were found to be within the legal limit to operate their vehicles.  Police found 2 drivers who registered alerts on the roadside screening resulting.  Both of which were issued 72 hour drivers licence suspensions and their vehicles were towed.  Two drivers registered a fail on the roadside screening devices and were arrested for driving with over 80 mgs of alcohol. One was arrested by Guelph Police and the other by O.P.P.  Both drivers were residents of Guelph and each had their drivers licence suspended for 90 days and their vehicles impounded for 7 days. 3 other drivers were issued provincial offence notices for driving without wearing their seatbelts.

Guelph Police would like to remind drivers that they will continue to conduct random spot checks for persons driving under the influence of alcohol.  Registering breath samples over 80 mgs of alcohol per 100 mls of blood will result in an immediate 90 day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension.  Convictions for impaired driving and driving with over 80 mgs will both result in a minimum of 12 month driving prohibition.

Weekend impaired drivers

Check on Wellington Street West spoke with the male driver of a motor vehicle and a demand was made for a roadside breath sample. He failed this test and was arrested.

Leng Kim Truong, 40 years of Guelph has been charged with drive over 80 mg. He will appear in court on October 14, 2016.

On Oct. 1, 2016 at 7:15 p.m., the Guelph Police conducted a traffic stop with a motor vehicle on Woodlawn Road West. After speaking with the male driver it was determined that he was impaired by alcohol and he was arrested.

William Zinger, 58 years of Guelph has been charged with impaired driving and drive over 80mg. He will appear in court on October 21, 2016.

On Sept. 30, 2016 at 4:12 a.m., the Guelph Police conducted a traffic stop with a motor vehicle on Edinburgh Road South. After speaking with the male driver it was determined that he was impaired by alcohol and he was arrested. A search then discovered a small quantity of marihuana.

Colin-John Graham, 21 years of Guelph has been charged with drive over 80 mg and possession of a controlled substance. He was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with novice driver BAC above zero. He will appear in court on October 18, 2016.

Theft from cars

Over the weekend the Guelph Police received three reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Cole Road, Paisley Road and Ridgewood Avenue.

This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible. Car strikes building

On Oct. 3, 2016 at 6 a.m., the Guelph Police went to 715 Wellington Street West for the report of a vehicle that had been driven into the Pioneer gas bar building. Investigation determined that the collision was the result of a medical issue with the female driver who is nine months pregnant. She had no obvious injuries from the collision but was taken to Guelph General Hospital. No charges are pending.
