Theft from vehicle, stolen bike, unsafe driving, and more

The following are news releases issued by the Guelph Police Service:

At approximately 9 a.m. on Oct. 29,  a Balmoral Drive resident interrupted a person in the driveway taking items from the family vehicle.  When the resident confronted the male, he was verbally threatened by the male. The male made off with some property that was later recovered. There is still a quantity of commemorative coins that were not recovered.

The male was identified by police and that same day later in the evening, police located and arrested the responsible male in the downtown core. The 28-year-old male from Guelph was charged with theft under $5000, uttering threats to cause bodily harm and two counts of breach of probation. He was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in bail court.  

On the afternoon of Oct. 28, a Guelph resident located a male that was riding a bicycle that had been previously stolen. Police were notified and investigation revealed that the bike did not belong to the male that was riding it. The male was arrested and found to be in possession of other property that did not belong to him.

Christopher Will, a 27-year-old from Guelph was charged with two counts of possession of property obtained by crime and breach of probation. He was later released and will appear in court in December. 

 On the evening of Oct. 25, a male was confronted by another male about a number of bicycles that were appearing around an Arthur Street residence. During this altercation, the suspected bicycle thief assaulted the other man and fled. Police investigation revealed that a bicycle at that residence had been previously reported stolen and an arrest warrant was issued for the responsible male.

The 21-year-old male from Guelph became aware that he was being sought by police and surrendered himself on Oct. 27.  Devin Patrie-Campbell was charged with assault, possession of stolen property and two counts. He appeared in bail court over the weekend and was released to appear back in court later in November.  

At approximately 4 p.m. on Oct. 29, police observed a grey Ford Fusion perform an unsafe turn in the area of the Hanlon Parkway and Paisley Road. The vehicle was stopped and investigation revealed that the licence plate attached to the vehicle had been previously reported as missing. The female driver was also wanted on outstanding arrest warrants for possession of stolen property and failing to attend court.

The 55-year-old Guelph resident was arrested and further charged with possession of stolen property and other Highway Traffic Act charges. She was held in custody and will appear in bail court.

In the lead up to Halloween, it seems like this was the weekend to celebrate and have a party. Over the weekend,  Police and City of Guelph By-law officers were kept busy responding to 71 noise complaints.

Over the course of the day of the weekend, the Guelph Police Service responded to 732 calls for service.
