On September 11, 2016 at approximately 10:20 p.m., a 67-year-old Guelph male was operating an Arctic Cat 700 four wheel ATV on a rural residential property west of Gordon Street near Maltby Road.

On Sept. 11, 2016 at approximately 10:20 p.m., a 67-year-old Guelph male was operating an Arctic Cat 700 four wheel ATV on a rural residential property west of Gordon Street near Maltby Road. He was accompanied on the machine by two male children ages 6 and 8. As the driver attempted to drive up an incline, the machine lost traction and rolled down that incline coming to rest partially on the adult driver. 

The incident was witnessed by a family member who took the children to safety and called emergency services. Guelph Wellington Paramedics and Guelph Fire attended the scene with Guelph Police.  The man was transported to Guelph General Hospital suffering from a severe leg injury. The two children were also transported to hospital with one suffering abrasions and the other as a precautionary measure.

The investigation is continuing and no charges are anticipated at this time.

R.I.D.E.

On Sept. 10 / 11, 2016 between the hours of 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. the Guelph Police Service conducted a RIDE program in the City of Guelph.  610 vehicles were checked by officers with four roadside screening tests being administered. All four drivers registered alcohol but were found to be within the legal limit to operate their vehicles.  Police found two drivers who entered the RIDE lane to be unlicenced and issued provincial offence notices to both.  Three drivers were also issued provincial offence notices for driving their vehicles without current validation stickers.

Guelph Police would like to remind drivers that over the next couple of weeks they will continue to conduct random spot checks for persons driving under the influence of alcohol.  Registering breath samples over 80 mgs of alcohol per 100 mls of blood will result in an immediate 90 day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension.  Convictions for impaired driving and driving with over 80 mgs will both result in a minimum of 12 month driving prohibition.

Although RIDE did not find any impaired drivers, general patrol still located two.

On September 11, 2016 at 2:15 a.m., a traffic stop on Silvercreek Parkway South led to the arrest of the male driver.

Craig Bolduc, 43 years of Cambridge has been charged with impaired driving and drive over 80mg. He will appear in court on September 20, 2016.

On September 11, 2016 at 3:22 a.m., the Guelph Police received a call about a possible impaired driver. The vehicle and diver were located and stopped at Silvercreek Parkway North and Willow Road. The male driver was arrested.

Teklesenbet Hemido, 33 years of Guelph has been charged with impaired driving and drive over 80mg. He will appear in court on September 20, 2016.

Vehicle/cyclist hit and run

On Sept. 9, 2016 the Guelph Police investigated a vehicle/cyclist collision. It is alleged that at approximately 5 p.m. a black vehicle was exiting the Kortright Zehrs plaza. At this time the black vehicle and a cyclist collided. The driver stopped briefly and asked if the female cyclist was ok but then left the area. The cyclist was later diagnosed with a broken collar bone as a result of the collision.

Break and enter

On Sept. 9, 2016 at 9:40 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a Dawson Road business to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered a trailer in the back of the property sometime overnight and stole power tools.

Break and enter

On Sept. 9, 2016, the Guelph Police went to a Grange Street residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered a shed sometime over the past week and stole a Honda Z50R mini motorcycle.

Break and enter

On Sept. 9, 2016, the Guelph Police went to a Victoria Road North apartment building to investigate a break and enter. The laundry room has been entered three times in the past week and change has been stolen from the machines

Car window smashed

On Sept. 10, 2016 at 8:30 p.m., the Guelph Police investigated the report that a male had smashed a rear window on a car parked at a used car business on Gordon Street near downtown. The male was located by police a short distance away and was arrested.

Krzysztof Kedzior, 37 years old of Guelph has been charged with mischief under $5,000 and seven counts of breach of probation. He will appear in court on September 12, 2016.

Theft from cars

Over the weekend the Guelph Police received fourteen reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Halesmanor Court, Joseph Street, Grange Road, McCann Street, Eramosa Road, Conroy Crescent, two on Norton Drive, two on Sandcreek Lane and four on Paulstown Crescent.

This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible. September 11 - In the area of Edinburgh Road South/Wilsonview Avenue from 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. - 9 tickets issued.

September 12 – Stop signs on Ontario Street from 1:15 a.m. - 2:30 a.m. – 3 tickets issued
