On September 17/18, 2016 between the hours of 11 p.m. and 4 a.m., the Guelph Police Service conducted a RIDE program in the City of Guelph. 795 vehicles were checked by officers with 14 roadside screening tests being administered.

On Sept. 17/18, 2016 between the hours of 11 p.m. and 4 a.m., the Guelph Police Service conducted a RIDE program in the City of Guelph. 795 vehicles were checked by officers with 14 roadside screening tests being administered. Ten of the fourteen drivers registered alcohol but were found to be within the legal limit to operate their vehicles. Police found 3 drivers who registered alerts on the roadside screening; one from Oakville, one from Hamilton and the third from Guelph. Each were issued 72 hour drivers licence suspensions and their vehicles were towed. Two drivers were also issued provincial offence notices for driving their vehicles without current validation stickers.

At 12:54 a.m. a vehicle was observed to turn away from the RIDE lanes on Gordon Street. A traffic stop was conducted a short distance away and the female driver was given a demand to provide a sample of her breath into the approved screening device. She registered a fail and was placed under arrest.

Sarah Dibblee, 20 years of Markham has been charged with drive over 80mg. She was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with young driver as well as novice driver – blood alcohol concentration above zero.  She will appear in court on October 4, 2016.

Guelph Police would like to remind drivers that over the next couple of weeks they will continue to conduct random spot checks for persons driving under the influence of alcohol. Registering breath samples over 80 mgs of alcohol per 100 mls of blood will result in an immediate 90 day Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension. Convictions for impaired driving and driving with over 80 mgs will both result in a minimum 12 month driving prohibition.

Collision

On Sept. 17, 2016 at 11:43 a.m., the Guelph Police went to Victoria Road and Stone Road for a two vehicle collision. It is alleged that a grey Volkswagon turning left from Stone Road onto Victoria Road struck a green Nissan also travelling on Stone Road. A passenger in the Nissan, a 67-year-old Rockwood male, was transported to Guelph General Hospital with minor injuries. Damage to both vehicles is estimated at $10,000.

The driver of the Volkswagon, a 61-year-old Caledon male, is charged with turn not in safety under the Highway Traffic Act.

Property damage

On Sept. 16, 2016 at 9:12 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a Speedvale Avenue West Variety Store for the report damage to the front door that was done sometime overnight. The culprit(s) left a note behind advising that an item they had purchased did not work.

Break and enter

On Sept. 17, 2016 at 9:10 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a Beverly Street business to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) cut the lock to gain entry to the compound sometime overnight. The owner was unsure if a theft had occurred.

Break and enter

On Sept. 17, 2016 at 8:54 p.m., the Guelph Police went to a Watt Street residence to investigate a break and enter. A group of 6 or 7 males had entered the garage and stole two cases of beer. A check of the area did not locate the suspects.

Break and enter

On Sept. 17, 2016 at 9:38 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a Trimble Crescent residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered the garage and the car. Two bicycles are reported stolen.

Break and enter

On Sept.18, 2016 at 12:02 p.m., the Guelph Police went to a Conroy Crescent apartment building to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered the laundry room and stole coins from the machines.

Break and enter

On Sept. 18, 2016 at 11:44 a.m., the Guelph Police went to a Wilfred Laurier Court residence to investigate a break and enter. The culprit(s) entered the garage sometime overnight and stole cash, keys and papers.

Theft from cars

Over the weekend the Guelph Police received five reports from Guelph residents about thefts from their cars. The locations were Bristol Street, Essex Street, Wyndham Street, Kimberley Drive and Metcalfe Street.

This crime is easily avoided by locking your cars, keeping valuables out of sight or removed from your vehicle and parked in a well-lit and visible area where possible. Sept. 16 - In the area of Paisley Road/Stephanie Drive from 7:26 a.m. - 11:37 a.m. - 33 tickets issued.

Sept. 16 - In the area of Victoria Road/Dakota Drive from 10:05 a.m. - 11:54 a.m. - 6 tickets issued.

Sept. 16 - In the area of Scottsdale Drive/Steffler Drive from 6:14 p.m. - 2:20 p.m. - 5 tickets issued.

Sept. 16 - In the area of Maltby Road from 6:18 p.m. - 8:54 p.m. - 2 tickets issued. (Both 40+ over limit)

Sept. 17 - In the area of Paisley Road/Candlewood Drive from 7:50 a.m. - 10:10 a.m. - 7 tickets issued.
