Mount Forest man charged with assaulting police officers

The 35-year-old is also facing multiple charges of trying to disarm a police officer in the incident, in which police say two officers suffered minor injuries

On May 7, 2021, at approximately 10 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an intoxicated person on Queen Street West in the Town of Mount Forest.

OPP attended and located the suspect on the street. An officer attempted to arrest the suspect for public intoxication. The person resisted arrest, assaulted police, and then tried to disarm an officer. A second officer was also assaulted when they arrived to assist.

Two OPP officers suffered minor injuries during the incident.

Justin Hunter-Bechard, 35 years old, of Mount Forest has been charged with two counts of assault a peace officer, disarming a peace officer and assault with intent to resist arrest. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice - Guelph on June 8.
