Multiple charges laid after man accused of shoplifting

On Dec. 1, 2018 at approximately 8:20 p.m., Guelph Police were in retail store on Silvercreek Parkway on an unrelated matter when they were advised that a male was shoplifting in the store.

It was also learned that this male was currently wanted for two counts of failing to comply with an OIC undertaking, four counts of breaching his probation, two counts of theft under $5,000, two counts of breaching his recognizance, and two counts of failing to re-attend court.

The male was arrested in the store with several items that did not belong to him. Also located on the male was individually wrapped packages of what is believed to be fentanyl, with a street value of approximately $1,000.

Christopher Hanley, a 38-year-old Guelph male, was charged with theft under $5,000, fail to re-attend court, possession for the purpose of trafficking a substance, and possession of a controlled substance.

Hanley appeared in court on Dec. 2, 2018.
