Nissan driver charged with failing to obey railway signal

Car/train collision

On December 20, 2016 at 10:47 a.m., the Guelph Police went to Macdonell Street and Woolwich Street for the report of a car/train collision.

It is alleged that a four door Nissan Versa was travelling westbound on Macdonell Street east of Woolwich Street as a northbound freight train approached the level crossing. 

The Versa stopped on the railway tracks and was struck by the train.

The driver, a 63-year-old Guelph female, was transported to Guelph General Hospital with minor injuries.

Macdonell Street was closed between Woolwich and Elizabeth Street for approximately 1 hour while police conducted their investigation.

The female driver will appear in Provincial Offence Court to answer to the charge of disobey railway signal – stop at wrong place.

Police would like to remind drivers that the moment railway crossing signals are activated they are required to stop their vehicles at the marked stop.
