NEWS RELEASE
GUELPH POLICE SERVICE
****************************
On the morning of Nov. 7, 2019, an adult male and an adult female were located inside a hotel room located on the north end of the City of Guelph. Both parties were wanted on outstanding charges from Guelph and other jurisdictions for a number of offences including shoplifting, robbery and theft under $5,000. Neither party would come out of the unit, and police were forced to hold the perimeter for six hours while an entry warrant was requested.

While police were holding the perimeter, the parties phoned into police dispatch falsely reporting that a police officer had been shot in the downtown core of the city, in an attempt to draw officers away from the unit.

In the early afternoon, the entry warrant was granted and executed, with both parties being arrested. A search incident to arrest revealed numerous pieces of stolen property.

A 48-year-old Guelph male has been charged with:
    •    Theft under $5,000 x2
    •    Possession of stolen goods under $5,000
    •    Public mischief - report offence which had not been committed
    •    Breach probation

A 43-year-old Guelph female has been charged with:
    •    Theft under $5,000
    •    Possession of stolen goods under $5,000
    •    Public mischief - report offence which had not been committed

They were both held for a bail hearing and will appear in court on Nov. 8, 2019.
