Persons of interest in a Guelph distraction theft.

Gueph police are trying to identify the people in the attached photos after an older person had her debit and credit cards stolen from her house and used.

On Sept. 21, a woman in her 80s called police. She said she had just got home from shopping when a woman knocked on the window of her car and asked for a glass of water. The victim was suspicious and told the woman to wait outside while she retrieved a drink. She brought her wallet inside and put it on the counter.

The victim explained she took the glass of water to the front porch, speaking to the woman for a lengthy amount of time while she tried to get her to leave. It is believed the woman distracted the victim so a second person could enter the house through an unlocked side door and remove the victim’s cards from her wallet.

The cards were later used to withdraw $4,500 in cash and make more than $1,000 in purchases from a business on Woodlawn Road West. The woman was described as white, mid-30s, medium build, average height and long black hair. She was carrying a box during the interaction.

We would like to speak to the two people in the attached photos. Anyone who recognizes them or has any more information is asked to call Constable Abdullah Eidokheil at 519-824-1212, ext. 7415, email [email protected], leave an anonymous message for Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or leave an anonymous tip online at www.csgw.tips.
