One charged with racing on Hanlon Expressway

He is charged with going in excess of 130 km/h in a posted 80 km/h

On Monday April 15, 2019, at approximately 8:45 a.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic and conducting speed enforcement on the Hanlon Expressway near Laird Road.

The officer observed a white motor vehicle travelling northbound at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 130 km/h.

Police also seized an open baggie of marihuana that was accessible to the driver.

Raneithan Shanmugathasan, 30-years-old of Scarborough has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act, Drive Vehicle With Cannabis Readily Available and Drive Vehicle With Cannabis in Open Container contrary to the Cannabis Control Act 2017. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on June 5, 2019 to answer to his charges.

 His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
