OPP back to school campaign results in 154 charges

COUNTY OF WELLINGTON – Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) participated in the Back-to-School Traffic Safety Campaign that ran from Aug. 31, 2020 to Sept. 24, 2020. Officers were deployed to school zones across the detachment area to conduct high-visibility, zero tolerance enforcement with the goal of keeping children safe to and from school. Anything that could put a child's life and well-being at risk was targeted.

As a result, 154 charges were laid in total during the campaign:       

  • Six (6) Stunt Driving        
  • 95 Speeding Offences       
  • 21 Other "Big 4" (Seatbelt/Cellphone)       
  • 9 Other Moving Offences       
  • 23 Other HTA/CAIA Offences

Wellington County OPP will continue with high visibility patrols around the school zones throughout the year to ensure that drivers and students are following the rules of the road and exercising the appropriate level of care and caution. Children's safety is everyone's responsibility.
