OPP have person in custody following homicide near Belwood

TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON – On July 1, 2020, approximately 11:30 a.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended an address on Poplar Place in the Township of Centre Wellington to check on the well-being of the occupant. Officers gained entry into the home and subsequently located a deceased male.

The Wellington County OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) along with OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS) and in partnership with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Services have entered into a death investigation. A post mortem examination confirmed that the male died as a result of homicide.

While the investigation is still in the preliminary stages, a male has been taken into custody. Police believe that this incident was isolated in nature, and a risk to public safety has not been identified.
