OPP lay charge in Rothsay collision that closed road Tuesday

MAPLETON TOWNSHIP - One driver has been charged following a collision in Rothsay that closed the roadway and left many without any electricity for several hours.

On Sept. 27, 2022 at approximately 1 p.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report of a collision at the intersection of Queen Street and Elora Street West in Rothsay. It was initially reported that a pickup truck and a commercial motor vehicle had collided. The commercial motor vehicle subsequently struck a hydro pole and live hydro wires were across the roadway. No injuries were reported, but the roadway was closed for several hours while the hydro lines were repaired.

As a result of the investigation, the driver of the pickup truck, a 51-year-old from Listowel has been charged with disobey stop sign - fail to stop, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
