TOWNSHIP OF MAPLETON — On September 9, 2017 at approximately 3:30 p.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a head-on collision involving two vehicles on County Road 12 near County Road 45 Township of Mapleton

Township of Mapleton Fire and Rescue responded along with Guelph -Wellington Paramedic Services.

Both drivers were pronounced deceased at the scene. 

Investigation has revealed that a male driver of a 2015 Ford Explorer towing a boat was travelling southbound on County 12.  A male driver of a 2017 Jeep Compass was driving northbound on County 12. The driver of the Compass came over a hill and for unknown reasons the driver of the Explorer was in the northbound lanes. The two vehicles collided head on.

The driver of the Explorer has been identified as 74-year-old Beverly Coveny of St. Mary's. His female passenger of St. Mary's was transported by air ambulance and remains in critical but stable condition at London Health Sciences Centre.

The driver of the Compass has been identified as 38-year-old Trevor Vollett of Arthur.

County Road 12 between County Road 45 and Fourth Line was closed while OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) were on scene.
