OPP seize suspected cocaine during R.I.D.E. check

The 25-year-old Guelph passenger faces multiple charges

On March 24, 2021 members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) check on Hanlon Parkway near College Avenue in the City of Guelph.  

At approximately 1:30 a.m., police spoke with the occupants of a grey passenger vehicle which had entered the R.I.D.E. check.  

It was reported that police asked a passenger to identify themselves regarding a Highway Traffic Act violation. The passenger was later arrested after providing a false name to police. They were also found to be in possession of a substance suspected to be cocaine.  

Matt James Hansen, 25-years-old of Guelph has been charged with:

  • Obstruct peace officer,
  • Possession of a schedule I substance (cocaine),
  • Fail to comply with probation order (three counts), and
  • Failing to wear properly seatbelt.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice - Guelph on April 27.
