Pair of impaired arrests on the weekend

Two Guelph males face impaired driving charges following separate incidents over the Thanksgiving weekend.

On Saturday, just before midnight, Guelph police on patrol downtown pulled over a vehicle following an illegal turn at Norfolk Street and Macdonell Street. When the driver opened his window officers smelled a strong odour of alcoholic beverage. The male registered a fail on a roadside screening device and was taken to the police station, where further testing confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

A 29-year-old Guelph male is charged with impaired operation and impaired operation – blood alcohol. His driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days. He will appear in a Guelph court Nov. 5.

On Monday evening, approximately 6 p.m., police received a report of a possibly intoxicated male driving away from the area of Alma Street South and Inkerman Street. Officers attended the owner’s address nearby and saw him attempting to parallel park. A traffic stop was conducted and when the driver stepped from the vehicle he was observed to be unsteady on his feet and had a strong odour of alcoholic beverage on his breath.

A 48-year-old Guelph male is charged with impaired operation, impaired operation – blood alcohol and driving without a licence. His driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days. He will appear in a Guelph court Jan. 25.
