On March 21, 2018 at approximately 4 a.m., Guelph police were called to a business on Silvercreek Parkway North, where there was a report of an armed robbery. Investigation revealed a suspect (allegedly) entered the business armed with a knife and demanded money. The suspect then fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.

While police were investigating the armed robbery, officers discovered a smashed window to a second business in the area. Items appeared to have been recently taken from the second business.

With regards to the robbery, police were able to quickly identify the suspect. Shortly after the identity of the suspect was known, a police officer in a parking lot along Silvercreek Parkway North observed a male exiting a building and begin making hand gestures. The suspicious male was approached and identified as the suspect in the robbery. Furthermore, investigation alleges the male had been throwing away cash that was taken in the robbery. Police were able to recover said cash.

A K9 unit had been dispatched to assist with the robbery, but was redeployed to assist with the break and enter. Police service dog Charger was able to locate items that appear to be related to both the robbery and the break and enter.

As a result of this incident, a 24-year-old Guelph male has been arrested and charged with robbery, weapons dangerous, break and enter, breaching an officer in charge undertaking and two counts of breaching his probation order. The male was held for a bail hearing.
